International students come to Guide My Words' website looking for native
English speakers to meet with them online to practice the English they
already know. They have spent a considerable amount of time in learning English
in formal education settings but want to become more comfortable speaking
with native English speakers.
This is a unique opportunity to share your faith with the nations from the
comfort of your own home!
Some students may wish to receive Bible lessons and these are available for
the Conversation Partner to share with their student.
Some students may request only an email exchange as their schedules would
not permit a regular meeting time online. This would be more of a
pen-pal/key-pal arrangement but will still provide ample opportunity to assist the
student in becoming more comfortable with using English.
Some students contact Guide My Words soley to learn more about Christianity
and to develop a friendship with a Christian. Although they still want to
have English help, they are more interested in understanding who Jesus is
and what Christianity is all about.
Requirements
Please note that all volunteers interacting with the students must agree
with what we believe. All of our volunteers are born-again Christians as
described in Romans 10:9-10, John 3, and Ephesians 2:8-9.
We require two references. At least one of these should be someone you
have worked with in a ministry setting.
Please visit our website (www.guidemywords.com) and complete the Volunteer
Registration Form found on the site. Thank you!
Our Conversation Partners must be native English speakers as this is the
request of our students. You do not need to know any other languages (but
please tell us if you do).
We are asking for you to commit your reasonable time and attention to
meeting with your assigned student and attempting to develop a friendship that
will allow you to serve them in Jesus' name.
Should the appropriate time present itself we ask that you share your faith
with the student and answer any questions they may ask regarding Jesus and
the Bible.
If at any time, you require additional help with a question from your
student, we ask that you contact your supervisor at Guide My Words for further
direction.
You will remain in constant contact with your supervisor and share with
him/her the progress you have made with your student as well as any
questions/concerns you may have.
